Zaid Essa
Originally from Baghdad, Iraq, Zaid migrated to New Zealand in 2008 and subsequently became a member of IPENZ (now Engineering NZ) and SIGIE. He began his volunteering journey with SIGIE in 2009, also supporting international engineers in New Zealand. His dedication led to him becoming one of the first two Lifetime members of the group. During his service with the SIGIE committee, Zaid held various roles, including Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and committee member. He enjoyed, and continues to enjoy, every moment of this experience, meeting migrant engineers and witnessing their growth and integration into the New Zealand engineering industry.
On the career front, Zaid is a results-oriented and agile leader and professional. He is a Fellow of Engineering New Zealand, a Chartered and International Professional Engineer with a strong background and qualifications in Project Management. He possesses over 26 years of experience successfully leading and managing high-performing and diverse teams in the delivery of complex, high-value major Infrastructure and Transport projects and programmes across New Zealand and internationally.
Zaid is dedicated to serving the Engineering profession by supporting New Zealand in attracting more international talent and increasing the quality of engineering services.

Namir Amso
Namir Amso is a Chartered Professional Structural Engineer (CPEng) and a member of Engineering New Zealand formerly know as Institute of Professional Engineers NZ (IPENZ). He graduated with a BSc in Civil Engineering in 1978, an MSc in Civil Engineering in 1982, and an ME in Civil Engineering (Seismic) in 2005. With over 35 years of experience, he manages his own practice, Consultancy House For Designs & Engineering Ltd, in Auckland. His expertise includes seismic assessment and strengthening of buildings, residential and commercial building design, and project management. A recognised leader in his field, Namir was the first SIGIE committee chair, serving two 3-year terms from 2002, and is also one of the first two lifetime members of SIGIE. He has also served as Chairman for the Auckland Structural Group and dedicated 16 years of service to the group.
